PURPOSE:To manufacture an air electrode catalyst having a high activity through a simple process at a low cost by depositing nickel oxide over the surface of a conductive powder in a three-component reaction solution consisting of a nickel salt, an alkali hydroxide and an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A conductive powder such as active carbon is suspended in an aqueous solution of a nickel salt such as nickel sulfate, or a conductive powder is suspended in an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide such as potassium hydroxide. Next, the above aqueous suspension is added with an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochloride, and is stirred so as to make nickel oxide to deposite on the surfaces of the conductive powder. After that, the mixture solution is filtered, the conductive powder treated is dried and pulverized into a given grain diameter, and the pulverized powder is used as a catalyst for an air electrode for a fuel cell or the like. By the means mentioned above, an air electrode catalyst which has a catalytic ability as excellent as that of a noble metal catalyst can be easily obtained. |
