PURPOSE:To effectively remove nitrogen oxides by bringing an exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides into contact with a catalyst containing at least TiO2 and composite oxide of V and Mo and/or composite oxide of V and Mn in the presence of ammonia. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst containing at least TiO2 and a composite oxide of V and Mo and/or composite oxide of V and Mn is formed. The exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides is brought into contact with the aforesaid catalyst in the presence of ammonia, thereby removing the nitrogen oxides from the exhaust gas. Preferably, a volatile metallic compound is added to the exhaust gas. It is also preferred for the composite oxide of Mo and V to be represented by MoVxOy (x is 0.5-3 and y 3-10) and for the composite oxide of Mn and V represented by MnaVbOc (a is 1-4, b is 1-2 and c is 3-9). |
