PURPOSE:To impart a fiber with fine irregularities in longitudinal direction or cross-section by applying a resist to a polyester sheath-core conjugate fiber or hollow fiber and subjecting the fiber to exposure to laser beam, development and etching. CONSTITUTION:A resist is applied to a polyester conjugate fiber or hollow fiber consisting of a core composed of a polyester and a sheath composed of a copolymerized polyester containing 5-sodium sulfoisophthalate, wherein the solubilities of the core component and the sheath component to an etching liquid are different from each other. The resist is exposed to a laser beam having arbitrarily variable spot form using pulse laser or excimer laser as the light source. The laser-exposed fiber is developed and etched to obtain the objective fiber. The height, depth and period of the irregularities in the longitudinal direction and cross-section of the fiber can be freely controlled in the order of mum. |
