Appts. and method for producing a continuous sheet of thermoplastics by (a) heating thermoplastics to a thermoelastic state; (b) forming the thermoelastic material into a flexible continuous sheet by a multiple roll calender with the last roll in close contact with an endless belt passing around both the last calender roll and a stripper roll; (c) removing the flexible sheet from the calender by contacting the flexible sheet with the endless belt rather than the last calender roll and conveying the flexible sheet away from the calender towards the stripper roll; (d) continuously cooling the flexible sheet; and (e) removing the cooled flexible sheet from the endless belt.
