N-Acyl-hexahydroindole-2-carboxylic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are prepared. In (I), n is 1; R is H or C1-4 alkyl; R1 is H, C1-3 alkyl, C2-3 alkenyl, benzyl, phenethyl, 4-aminobutyl or benzoylmethyl; R2 is H, C1-4 alkyl or benzyl; Y is H or hydroxyl; Z is H; X is C1-6 alkyl, C2-6 alkenyl, C5-9 cycloalkyl, C6-10 aryl opt. substd. (Ph or naphthyl). (I) are usful as hypotensives.
