The subject of the present invention is a method and a device for connecting in situ a transmission cable to a carrier cable. One of the applications of the invention is the submerging, in deep water, using a dragging winch 3 and a carrier cable 4, of equipment for exploration or for intervention work, and the transmission of acquired data along a transmission cable 9 installed around the carrier cable 4, by winding and unwinding around the latter, by virtue of a device 1 according to the invention. A rotating arm 10 supporting the final idling pulley 17 for the cable 9, which can be an optical fibre, is driven about a hollow shaft 8, surrounding the carrier cable 4, and winds and unwinds the said transmission cable 9, from its storage system. <IMAGE>
