<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently absorb energy of an impact load acting on a car body side by inflating and spreading, when the impact load not less than a predetermined value in the lateral direction of a car body is applied, an impact absorber arrange in a condition that it is folded and housed in a side door. CONSTITUTION:When an impact load of not less than a predetermined value in a car body lateral direction L is applied to a side door 1, an air tank 6, arranged in closed space 5 formed between outer and inner panels 2 and 4, is crushed, so that air in the air tank 6 is introduced into an air bag 7. Then the air bag 7, forming a peripheral edge part by a spread member 8 consisting of soft material, starts to be inflated, first spreading respectively in a car body longitudinal direction and vertical direction Y. When an amount of air introduced into the air bag 7 increases to a predetermined value or more, the air bag 7 spreads also in a car body width direction Z for absorbing energy by releasing connection of a fixed supporting member 11 for connecting the internal surface 10 of the air bag 7 to an air bag cover 9.</p> |
