The muscle-exercise device has its take-off member 1 integral with the rod 2 of a pneumatic jack 4. The front chamber 6 of the jack 4 is connected to a buffer reservoir 11 and to a compressed-air source 14. According to the invention, the rear chamber 7 of the jack 4 is connected to a compressed-air source 14 or 18 via a pipe 17 equipped with a pusher 20, which, in the acting position, allows the compressed air originating from the source 14 or 18 to pass and, in the rest position, places the pipe 17 in free exhaust mode.
