The hinge for a vehicle exterior rear view mirror housing carrier frame has the free ends (40) of the frame (10) flattened and provided with three holes to correspond with projections on a first element (48) whose base is provided with a groove (65) into which locates a projection (66) on the surface of a second element (47). The second element (48) is provided on its base with pegs (68) which locate into holes (70) in the lower shank of a 'U' shaped console (41). Fitted above the frame end (40) is a coil spring (46) between upper and lower spring cups (76). The upper spring cup is supported beneath the upper shank of the console (41). A hinge pin (44) passes through the shanks of the console and central openings in the spring cups (76), the carrier frame end (40) and the first and second elements (47,48) and held in place by a nut (74).
