Two winding spindles (5.1, 5.2) are mounted on the bobbin turret (18) of the winding machine. The particular winding spindle which is in operation bears with its bobbin against a contact roller (11). With an increase in bobbin diameter, the bobbin turret (18) is rotated in dependence on a slight deflecting movement of the contact roller (11). The position of the contact roller remains essentially unchanged during the winding run. <IMAGE>
