A graft comprising a section of patellar tendon and sections of its bony attachment at either end is harvested using an apparatus comprising a mounting device 1 having an arm 2 rigidly interconnected with means 20 for rotatably mounting a dowel cutter (7), end 3 of the arm 2 being securable e.g. by pins, to bony structure beneath it. A second apparatus (Figs 5-8) for accurate guiding of fixing pins through a tibia or femur comprises a rigid track (12, Fig 6) at right angles to a cylindrical stem (13, Fig 5) adapted to be inserted in a drilled canal in the bone. A sliding block (15, Fig 7) on the track has bores (17, Fig 7) at right angles to the stem to accommodate the fixing pin which can be inserted through the bone to abut the stem before the apparatus is withdrawn, so that the bony plug of the graft can be inserted in the canal and secured in position by driving the pin home.
