The glass tube heat exchanger 1 has glass tubes 4 which are divided into two tube groups A, B and arranged one behind another in the direction of flow of the clean (cleaned) gas REG. In this way, the raw (crude) gas ROG is guided in the shape of a U in cross-counterflow with respect to the clean gas REG. The side walls 9 of the clean gas chamber 8 simultaneously form a component of raw gas ducts 10 which are connected to the inlet chamber 5 and to the deflection chamber 6. Splitters 12-14 for distributing the raw gas ROG over the entire length and height of the side walls 9 are arranged in the raw gas ducts 10. <IMAGE>
