PURPOSE:To form the waveguide of a large area in a short period of time by applying an org. compd. on a substrate and heating the coated surface successively partially from one end, thereby growing the single crystal of the org. compd. CONSTITUTION:The soln. of the org. compd. is applied by spin coating on the smooth surface of the substrate 1 for the waveguide and the solvent is evaporated by a heating, etc., to form the waveguide layer 2 as a uniform and thin film. The org. compd. to be used may be an org. compd. which is crystalline and has a nonlinear optical effect. The substrate 1 is so installed that the waveguide layer 2 exists in proximity right under the resistance heater part of a heater 4. The waveguide layer 2 is heated successively partially from one end of the substrate 1 by gradually moving the substrate 1 in the direction of an arrow. The waveguide layer 2 constitutes the waveguide layer 3 converted to a single crystal when this layer passes right under the heater part of the heater 4. The waveguide of the large area is uniformly formed in a short period of time in this way. |
