<p>A magnetic head assembly (20) having a flat surface (26) for disposition adjacent to a recording medium (10) and a protrusion (27) in the range of about 1 to about 20 micro-inches on the flat surface (26) effects coupling of the head assembly (20) to the recording medium (10) and creates a constant contact zone, surrounding the read/write gap (28) of the head assembly (20), between the head assembly (20) and the record medium (10). The preferred range for the protusion (27) is about 6 to about 8 micro-inches and the area of the flat surface (26) is preferably in the range of about 3 to about 4 square millimeters.</p> |
