PURPOSE: To form a closed optical loop between two nodes in both forward and reverse directions by deciding whether or not an optical loop to connect one node in a system to a succeeding node is occupied by packets prior to transmission of a packet from the one node to the succeeding node. CONSTITUTION: An exchange node 100 of star type network topology having 4 nodes are linked to exchanges nodes 102, 104, 106 via optical fiber paths 108, 110, 112. Furthermore, corresponding hosts 101, 103,...115, 117 relate to each node and the paths 108, 110 and 112 are used to select a packet from the node 100 to the respective nodes 102, 104, 106 directly. When a destination is occupied by a packet, the transmitted packet is circulated through the optical fiber paths 100, 110, and/or 112, and the number of packet circulation is limited by a loop count column in a header of each packet. |
