PURPOSE:To extend a transmission range by selecting the intensity of an optical pulse inputted from an optical amplifier and an electric/optic converter to an optical fiber to be the intensity corresponding to amplifier A=1.1-1.4, thereby positively utilizing a waveform change in an optical soliton caused during propagation. CONSTITUTION:When an incoming optical soliton pulse to an optical fiber has the amplitude of A=1 or less, the pulse width is monotonously spread, and when the amplitude is larger than A=1, the pulse width is made narrow at first and then the pulse width is gradually being spread as the amplitude is decreased due to the loss of the optical fiber. In the case of amplitude A=1.4, the distance capable of identifying the pulse is doubled and the transmission distance is expanded. |
