The invention concerns a protective cap for a ball-hitch of a trailer coupling of a motor vehicle, consisting of a cup-like basic component which can be fitted and secured over the ball-hitch. In order to ensure that the protective cap stays in place, at least one section (6) of the protective cap (1) is so magnetised that, when it is removed from the ball-hitch, the protective cap (1) remains attached to a ferromagnetic part of the motor vehicle on which it is placed.
