The system processes signals produced by a number of sensors, e.g. temp. sensors, pressure transducers, etc. Each signal is fed to the control processor (10), e.g. a personal computer, via an interface unit and signal processor. Each signal source has an associated code generator, which produces a code unique to that sensor. The computer memory holds a number of programs, each of which is suitable for dealing with the signals from a different type of source. Instead of being built into the remote sensors, the code generators may be built into the connectors (12) which plug into the interface unit. @(24pp Dwg.No.1/7)@.
