In the formula, E is formula (II) or (III); Hal each independently of the other is halogen; Y is -NR1R2, -OR3, -N=CR4R5, -N=CH-NR7, -SCN etc.; R is halogen, nitro, cyano, -XR8 etc; n is 0 or 1-5; m and P are 0 or 1-4; R1, R2 and R3 independently of one another are each halogen, - COR4, -COOR4, -CON(R4)2, C1-3 alkyl or C1-6 alkyo or C3-6 alkenyl each unsubstd. or substd. by halogen or C1-4 alkoxy etc.; R4 and R5 are each C1-6 alkyl or C3-6 alkenyl each unsubstd. or substd. by halogen or C1-4 alkoxy, H or C3-6 alkynyl; R8 is H, C1-6 alkylcarbonyl, or an unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl gp. (I) are useful as herbicide safeners.
