In a device for sawing crooked timber pieces 6, all four side faces of which are worked, i.e. so-called spars, in a sawing machine 1 consisting of two successive band saws, each comprising two band saw blades 2, 3, 4, 5, each saw blade is displaceable in the lateral direction. In front of the sawing machine, three guide roller pairs 12, 13; 14, 15; 21, 22 are arranged one after the other, the rollers 21, 22 of the roller pair placed furthest away from the sawing machine being arranged to centre the spar until it arrives between the rollers 12, 13, 14, 15 of the other roller pairs, whereafter it acts as a sensor mechanism which detects the crookedness of the spar. The detected value is processed in a computer 33 and is used for displacement of the saw blade in accordance with the crookedness.
