In a method and an arrangement for drying bulk commodities, such as bark, for example, the material is arranged as an annular bed 20 on a perforated bottom plate 5. The bed is turned by means of drivers 8 around the centre section 4 of the drying arrangement, whilst a drying medium is made to flow through the bed. Dried material is removed continuously from the underside of the bed and corresponding quantities of damp material are fed to the bed on top. In order to prevent arching, material is removed from the bed at the top of the lower part of the bed by means of a screw 22 ahead of the extraction point 18, so that the height H of the bed there is reduced to 1/2 - 1/3 of the original, the material being returned to the bed by another screw 23 after the extraction point. <IMAGE>
