Process for the disposal of asbestos-containing dusts

For the separation and disposal of asbestos-containing waste materials, particularly asbestos dust, a wet process is proposed, a binder which is water-soluble again even after its hardening, such as cellulose ether and/or methylcellulose, being added to the aqueous scrubbing liquid. The bound product can again be dissolved in water, mixed with other waste materials and finally reacted with a hydraulic binder to give a long-term landfillable product. In this manner it is possible, without expense and technical complexity, to convert asbestos at the site of breakup of asbestos-containing building materials or at the emission source initially into a harmless intermediate product which can then be further processed in various ways without asbestos fibre air pollution which is hazardous to health and the environment being able to occur.
