A gripping truck described in an application not published previously, in particular for lifting and lowering motor vehicles, requires a more comprehensive construction, in particular including a lifting appliance containing lifting cylinders. In order to permit in contrast a simple construction, the gripping arms, pivotable towards one another up to a minimum distance, are provided, for example, with rollers or wedges, via which, in a last adjusting displacement to be effected towards one another, the wheel, located in between, of the motor vehicle is lifted for the purposes of a compensating movement. The apparatus is especially suitable for the automatic shifting of motor vehicles in a multi-storey car park.
