Automatic-control viscous brake for quick, smooth braking of masses with high kinetic energy

The automatic-control viscous brake makes possible very rapid but nevertheless smooth braking, constant in time, of bodies with great momentum. By the direct and virtually uniform transmission of mechanical braking energy to an oil, the local overheating which occurs in conventional braking systems is avoided and optimal efficiency of the viscous brake is thus guaranteed. Further advantages over conventional brakes consist in a variable, automatic controllability and in an optimal ratio of dead weight to transmittable braking power. The viscous brake is further notable for its minimal maintenance requirement and high reliability.
