The invention relates to a method for making ice figures for ornamental and decorative purposes. In this method, for each ice figure, for example an ice figure in the form of a goblet, at least one part is formed on a cooling surface in that water is brought into contact with the cooling surface which is cooled below the freezing point of the water, for example by a spraying or centrifugal method, or an immersion method with an evaporator cooling element, and grows from the cooling surface as a path of ice, so that a part (819a, 819b) of an ice figure (820) forms. After detachment from the cooling surface, the parts (819a, 819b) are thawed to a plane at their free surfaces, put together and cooled below the freezing point of the water, resulting in a one-piece ice figure (820) which has the form of a goblet, the bowl-shaped lower part (819) consisting of cloudy ice, whereas the likewise bowl-shaped upper part (819b) consists of clear ice. If desired, an inclusion (30) can be introduced into the part (819a, 819b). The freezing process can be interrupted at any desired time and corrected. In addition, it is possible to introduce inclusions of any desired form, and the ice figures (820) can be produced in large quantities. <IMAGE>
