PURPOSE:To retain the freshness of perishable foods with the carbon dioxide passed through its container into a case in transit by placing in a perishables- containing case the containers formed of a carbon dioxidepermeable soft film and filled with carbon dioxide in order to effect shipment. CONSTITUTION:Fruit 2 is placed in a case 1 together with cushioning materials 3. The cushioning material 3 is composed of a container 4 formed of a soft plastic film permeable to carbon dioxide to some extent and a desired amount of the carbon dioxide filled in the container 4. When the container 5 is broken to mix together a solution of citric acid and a powder 6 of sodium carbonate so as to liberate the carbon dioxide, the container 4 becomes swollen with the carbon dioxide to serve as the cushioning material. At this time, moreover, the carbon dioxide is gradually passed through the container 4 into the case 1, since it is permeable to the carbon dioxide. This enables the freshness of fruit to be retained in transit. |
