PURPOSE:To readily perform heating of rod, prevent staining of base material with dust and produce base material having low loss by heating glass rod with utilizing ellipsoidal mirror in production of base material for fluoride optical fiber by spraying accumulation method. CONSTITUTION:Fluoride glass rod 1 is set to lathe 3 in freely rotating around center axis of itself and the lathe 3 is provided on a rail 4 to be able to reciprocate in parallel to center axis of the rod 1. Further, an ellipsoidal mirror 6 is installed so as the glass rod 1 to be set at one focus of the mirror and a heater element 7 at another focus. Then, the glass rod is rotated around of itself and heated by the heater element 7 with reciprocating in parallel to the center axis, and simultaneously atomized glass fine particles are fed to the rod 1 from atomizer 5 for producing glass fine particles and accumulated to produce preform for fluoride optical fiber. |
