PURPOSE:To obtain a detector which enables accurate detection of an inventory with easier setting by a method wherein image information on the inside a hopper is inputted with an image input device provided above the hopper and processed to determine the inventory of stock in the hopper. CONSTITUTION:Stock 2 such as city garbage dumped into a hopper 1 is cut with a feeder 3 and sent to the subsequent process 4 - incinerator or the like. An image input device 5 such as TV camera set above the hopper 1 picks up a plane image of the inside of the hopper 1 and outputs image information to an image processor 6, which processes the image information inputted to determine feature information pertaining to an inventory of the stock 2. In regard to information indicating a relationship with the inventory, an area of the plane image of the top of the stock 2 is most appropriate and thus, an inventory computing section 7 computes the area of the plane image of the top of the stock 2 to determine an inventory value by a computation from an approximation formula obtained previously based on an actual measurement data. |
