CHARACTER RECOGNIZING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To stably recognize the fluctuation in the slope of line segments and width of lines and to make recognition for manuscript characters with high accuracy, by picking up straight line segments from an input pattern and recognizing the characters through the use of a middle point pattern at specific direction and length of strokes. CONSTITUTION:An input character on a slip 6 is scanned with a scanning means 7 and the character pattern obtained through the scanning is made thin line with a pre-processing means 8. Strokes are picked up with stroke pickup means 9 from the character pattern made thin and the stroke middle point pattern at specific direction and the stroke pattern by length are obtained and given to a decision menas 10. The means 10 obtains the 1st and 2nd similarities for the stroke middle point patterns at direction and length for the reference character stored in advance and the input character is decided by using the similarities. Stable recognition can be made against the fluctuation in the slope and line width of the line segments to increase the accuracy of recognition of manuscript characters.
