<p>Apparatus for forcefully moving a slag retaining device through molten metal and a slag layer thereon into a tap hole in a converter comprises an elongated frame movably positioned on a platform and having one end pivoted to said platform, a carriage on said elongated frame and a two-part telescopic supporting boom having one part pivotally attached to said carriage so that said supporting boom is extensible into and out of said converter, a device for extending said supporting boom, and another device for tilting said supporting boom relative to said carriage whereby the ends of said supporting boom are movable in vertical and horizontal arcuate paths and jaws on one end of said extensible part of said supporting boom detachably supporting said slag retaining device.</p> |
