PURPOSE:To selectively use the musical sounds of the same pitch and different timbres in accordance with inputs and to change the timbres in the same way as with a natural musical instrument by determining the timbres to be outputted by an input form in a timbre control section and selectively outputting the musical sounds of the determined timbres from a musical sound generation section. CONSTITUTION:This musical instrument is constituted of a pitch instruction section 10, the timbre control section 12 which instructs the selection of the timbres of the musical sounds to be outputted, a sound production instruction section 21 which instructs sound production timing, and the musical sound generation section 17 which generates the plural timbres varying with the form of performance. Namely, the musical sound generation section 17 outputs the musical sounds of the timbres determined by the timbre selection data outputted th timbre control section 12 among the plural timbres varying with the form of the performance at the pitch complying with the pitch data outputted from the pitch instruction section 10 at the sound production timing outputted from the sound production instruction section 21. The change of the timbres corresponding to the form of the performance is attained in this way.
