A pharmaceutical compsn. having synergistic effect comprises as active ingredients sulbactam of its pharmaceutically acceptable salts or piperacillin or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The compsn. exhibits synergistic effect which is much more greater than the sum of antibacterial effect of each component alone. The compsn. is active against bacteria resistant to conventional penicillines. The compsn. can be used as injections or for oral use and the active ingredients are admixed in a ratio of 1:99 to 99:1.
