PURPOSE:To provide an alkaline battery of a high corrosion resistance having a good storage performance for a long period if it is made mercury free by adding ethylene glycol-based nonionic surface active agent of a specified ester type to zinc powders or zinc alloy powders. CONSTITUTION:A gel zinc negative electrode 2 consisting of zinc powders or zinc alloy powders to which ethylene glycol-based nonionic surface active agent of an ester type of an additive mol number of more than 8 of ethylene oxide is added is used. The addition quantity of ethylene glycol-based nonionic surface active agent shall preferably be within the range of 10-100ppm to zinc powder or zinc alloy powders. If there zinc powders or zinc alloy powders are used with an addition rate of less than 1.0wt.% or no addition, a high corrosion- resistance effect can be obtained. |
