PURPOSE:To use an ink efficiently to obtain a printer with a high economical efficiency by mounting a thermal head that melts a solid ink held in pores of an ink holding body in accordance with a recording signal with the pores opposed to the recording surface of recording paper to transfer the ink to the recording paper. CONSTITUTION:An ink holding body 11 provided with pores for loading an ink therein is tensioned by backup rolls 18a, 18b and a guide roll 19 with the pore surface thereof opposed to recording paper 22 and rotated by a rotating means. The ink holding body 11 holding a solid ink in the pores 31 is clamped between a thermal head 20 and a platen 21 together with the recording paper 22. By the application of a recording signal to the thermal head 20, a heater part 33 of the thermal head 20 generates a heat, whereby a solid ink 32 loaded in the pores 31 positionally corresponding to the heater part 33 melts to be transferred to the surface of the recording paper 22. Then, the ink holding body 11 is returned to an ink supply device and replenished with a solid ink 13 by the transferred amount. |
