This speaking thermometer, intended especially for the visually handicapped, of the type comprising means for temperature measurement 1 arranged in a probe and connected by data transmission means 2 to a data processing assembly 3 arranged in a casing and comprising a voice synthesiser 10, and amplification means 12 connected to a loudspeaker 13, is characterised in that the data processing assembly additionally comprises an oscillator 4 the input of which is connected to the measurement means 1 and the output of which is connected to a data processing unit 5 which measures the output frequency of this oscillator, compares this frequency with reference frequency values stored in storage means 7 of this unit, in order to withdraw, from the latter, codes corresponding to the measured frequency, the output of this unit being connected to the voice synthesiser 10 adapted for withdrawing, from codes provided by the central unit, phonemes in a phoneme memory 11 connected to this synthesiser in order to reconstitute a temperature message, the output of this synthesiser being connected to amplification means 12 which are themselves connected to the loudspeaker 13 for indicating the temperature. <IMAGE>
