The reactant (8) contains comprehensive pores and/or hollow spaces (9) for the fluid reactant (11), such pores and/or spaces communicating with a storage container (12) for fluid reactant via a micro-porous, hydrophilic connection (13). This connection, under ruling operating conditions, is permeable to fluid reactant but no for hydrogen gas. The reaction container (10) is also provided with a micro-porous hydrophobic connection (14) for conducting away the formed hydrogen gas to a gas chamber (15) which in turn is connected via a redn. valve (7) to the hydrogen gas chamber (4) of a hydrogen/air cell. The solid reactant used comprises the metals iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium individually or in different mixtures. It may also comprise hydride or lithium hydride. The fluid reactant is water.
