Process for removing mercury in hydrocarbon feedstocks, in which the said feedstock is passed, under hydrogen, in contact with a catalyst containing at least one metal from the group made up of nickel, cobalt, iron and palladium, followed by - or mixed with - a trapping mass containing sulphur or a metal sulphide, characterised in that, simultaneously with the feedstock, sulphur is introduced in the form of hydrogen sulphide or organic polysulphide.
