PURPOSE:To enhance the performance of an electrode and remarkably enhance the performance of a fuel cell using this electrode by coating the whole surface layer of the electrode with a solid polymer electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:When a process to coat the whole surface layer of an electrode with a solid polymer electrolyte is added to a usual process, as the solid polymer electrolyte for coating, styrenedivinylbenzenesulfonate resin, perfluorocarbonsulfonate resin and others are used. As a catalyst particle, platinum black powder, platinum alloy powder, platinum supported carbon black, palladium black and others are used. By adding this process, voltage is heightened 0.8-0.9V from the initial stage compared with a conventional cell, and almost the same tendency is kept even if current density is increased. The performance of the electrode is enhanced and the performance of a fuel cell is also remarkably improved. |
