Herbicidal compsns. contg. pyrimidine derivs. of formula (I) are prepd by reacting a cpd. of formula (II) with a cpd. of formula (III) . In the formulas, R is H, hydroxy, lower alkoxy, alkylthio, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, phenoxy, alkylphenoxy, phenylthio, imidazoryl or alsulfonyl; R1 and R2 are same or different and each is halogen, lower alkyl, lower haloalkyl, lower alkylthio, methansulfonyl, methylphenoxy or dimethylphenoxy; R4 is halo, alkylsufonyl or benzylsulfonyl; X is O or S. (I) are useful as herbicides, effective for annual and perennial weeds.
