Tetrahydro benzothiopyrano(2,3-C)pyridin-10-one(S) of formula (I) are prepd. by reacting (II) with (III) by heating in polyphosphoric acid. In the formulas, A, B, C and D are each H, C1-6 alkyl or -alkoxy, NO2 halo, NH2, C2-7 acylamino or A and B or C and D together with attached C atoms form benzene ring; R is C1-9 alkyl, C2-9 alkenyl opt. substd. by OH, C3-9 cycloalkyl, phenyl or C7-9 aralkyl; X is C1-8 alkyl. (I) are dopamine and alpha 2 receptor antagonists have anti- dopaminergic, antidepressant and antipsychotic activity.
