<p>A method and apparatus are disclosed for providing a fiber optic distribution network between a central office (40) and a group of users (42, 44, 46) generally in a localized area. The apparatus utilizes a continous optical fiber primary loop (48) in communication with the central office (40) and passing in the vicinity of each user. Each user is connected to an optical fiber in the primary loop (48) in a manner which provides protection against breaks in the primary loop (48). Embodiments of the apparatus in which a plurality of users are connected to a single optical fiber are also disclosed.</p> |
