<p>A grass cutting unit with a reel (30) rotatably mounted between side plates (2, 4) has bearing assemblies (14, 16) which extend inwardly of the side plates and a reel shaft (32) shorter than the separation of the side plates. After removing one bearing assembly, the reel can be withdrawn transversely for maintenance. There is no necessity for open-ended slots in the side plates. A drive assembly is demountable as a unit with one bearing assembly. The opposite bearing assembly incorporates a spring loaded plunger (60) to pre-load taper roller bearings in both assemblies.</p> |
