Injection pump control rod - is used in IC engine and incorporates zero resetting system

The zero re-setter is for an injection pump control rod. It is moved in normal conditions by an adjuster via an intermediate rod. The engine is cut out in emergencies by a spring (3) acting in the control rod stop direction and indirectly connected to the rod. The engine cutout is cancelled by an electromagnet. The re-setter may form a coupling in the adjustment path between intermediate and control rods and consists of a cylinder (2) with a cutoff spring (3) loaded re-setting piston (4) using latching balls (7) engaging recesses in cylinder and piston to positively link these. The bevelled piston face applies radially outward force to the balls so they escape from the large recesses (6) in the cylinder. A first sleeve adjusting in the cylinder normally bears on the balls with its bevel face and a second axially adjacent sleeve (9) is coupled to move with the cylinder. USE/ADVANTAGE - I.c. engines.
