PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF 6-AMINO 7-HYDROXY-4,5,6,7-TETRAHYDRO IMIDAZO (4,5,L-J,K)(1)-BENZAZEPINE-2(1H)-ONE AND ITS SALTS

Benzazepin-2-(1H)-one of formula (I) and its acid addn. salts are prepd. by reacting cpd. of formula (II) with a carbonyl cpd. in the presence of tert. amine and reacting with a reducting agent. In (I), R is H, opt. branched C1-8 alkyl (opt. substd. by hydroxy, aryl or aryloxy) or C3-7 cycloalkyl (opt. interrupted by a heteroatom and opt. substd. by C1-4 alkyl). The wavy lines indicate that the 7- hydroxy gp. and 6-amino gp. have trans configuration. (I) are useful as antihypertensives and vasodilators.
