PURPOSE: To adjust or drop the level of a mammalian serum triglyceride and cholesterol by administering an effective amount of a specific pyrazinoic acid derivative. CONSTITUTION: An effective amount (2-15mg, especially 3-10mg daily based on 1kg weight) of a compound of the formula Y is O or NH; R is OH, NHCONR<4> R<5> or N=C(NR<4> R<5> )2 [R<4> and R<5> are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, an aryl 1-4C alkyl which may mono- or disubstituted (a substituent group is a halogen or a 1-C alkyl)]; R<1> and R<2> are each H or amino which may mono- or disubstituted (a substituent group is a 1-10C alkyl or a 3-5C cycloalkyl) with the proviso that R<1> and R<2> are not a (substituted) amino; R<3> is H, CF3 or a halogen} such as pyrazinoylguanidine so as to control or drop a serum triglyceride concentration and/or serum cholesterol concentration of a patient.
