There is provided a novel process for the preservation of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and fresh eggs, which comprises applying to the outer skin or shell thereof, a layer of polymer which is permeable to water vapor but essentially impermeable to oxygen. To this water vapor permeable polymeric layer, there is then applied a curable coating to provide a water insoluble coating essentially impermeable to water vapor but essentially permeable to oxygen, as well as to carbon dioxide, ethylene and nitrogen, which is then cured. |
