In order to construct theatre stages or the like, use is made of vertically adjustable platform stands which are provided with a platform (2) borne by an upper frame (1), with four arrestable supporting scissor mechanisms (6, 7) which can be articulated on the corners of the upper frame (1) and of a lower frame (3), and with a vertical-adjustment device which can be driven by a motor. In order to achieve inexpensive stands which can also be vertically adjusted by remote control, the invention provides that the vertical-adjustment device is composed of four spreading members (25) which each act on the supporting scissor mechanisms (4,5,6,7), of four cables (9,10,11,12) which are each connected to the spreading members (25) and of a canned motor (8) or the like which is arranged on the lower frame (3), in the longitudinal centre of the platform stand. <IMAGE>
