The invention relates to a device for depositing a sliver into a sliver can with a basic frame having a can post arranged above the sliver can with at least one turntable and a drive to move the sliver can in relation to the can post. Such a device is to be designed for universal use. This is achieved in that two opposed rail sections (13) laterally framing the sliver can (6) are attached to the basic frame (1), at least one of them having a conveyor belt (10, 11) travelling horizontally whose web facing the outer surface of the sliver can (6) is supported towards the sliver can (6), where the distance between the rail sections (13) is such that a sliver can (6) lying between the rail sections is always pressed against the conveyor belt (11).
