Moulding substrate plus decorative cover - preventing decorative area from being stretched by holding materials 1st where little deformation occurs and then pressing shaped area

A process bonds together a rigid but mouldable substrate and a flexible decorative covering under heat and pressure between male and female tools to produce e.g. the interior covering of a car door which has at least one much deformed and at least one little deformed zone to display the decorative effect visually. In the first stage the zone which is only slightly deformed is moulded under 0.5-20 bar pressure; in a second stage the other zones are moulded while the first zone is held in its position. A preferred rigid substrate is a polyolefin film with high cellulose filler content; preferred decorative material is a fabric with decorative motive. ADVANTAGE - The process eliminates the problems of distorting the decorative areas. It enables decorative coverings to be made with two different materials whose dividing line is in the little deformed zone, and it ensures accurately positioned dividing line.
