PURPOSE:To drastically decrease the unequal display of a liquid crystal by changing the characteristic to lower the effective voltage of transparent electrodes and the characteristic to change the threshold voltage of the liquid crystal in the same way. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal layer 7 between two sheets of transparent insulating substrates 1 and 2 and is provided with transparent electrodes 3, 4 and oriented films 5, 6 respectively on the inside surfaces of the substrates 1, 2. At least one oriented film 6 in the oriented films 5, 6 is so formed as to apply the threshold value of the inclined electrooptical characteristics to the liquid crystal layer 7 in the stretching direction of the adjacent transparent electrodes 4. The threshold value of the liquid crystal inclines at the same inclination as the inclination of the voltage drop of the effective voltage of the transparent electrodes with respect to the stretching direction of the transparent electrodes and the difference between the effective voltage and the threshold voltage of the liquid crystal is the same in any section of the transparent electrodes. The same transmittance with a voltage change is obtd. in this way and the generation of the unequal display in the liquid crystal is obviated. |
